Homemade Shop Air Filtration
- 1). Cut the sheet of plywood into six pieces: four rectangles, 2 feet by 3 feet; and two rectangles, 2 feet by 1 foot.
- 2). Screw the four 2-by-3-foot pieces together along the 3-foot sides to form a four-sided frame. You will have a box with a floor, two walls and a roof.
- 3). Mount your electric fan inside this box, making a suitable hole for its power cord. Screw the fan down to one or more sides of the inside of the box in order to reduce vibration. Centrifugal type fans work best for this particular application.
- 4). Screw one 2-by-1-foot panel on the open end of the box where the fan blows, without obstructing the flow of air produced by the fan.
- 5). Mount the second 2-by-1-foot panel to the air intake end of the box, and mount the air filter screen over this opening to the inside of the box. Air will be sucked through the filter, collecting dust and particulates, and clean, dust-free air will be exhausted by the fan out of the opening on the other end of the box.
