  Punk dreadlocks are often characterized by hair color and the style that the dreads are worn in. A bright array of hair color is used to dye individual dreads different colors. Punk Dreadlock Styles for Girls

• Punk dreadlock hairstyles for girls are often styled as two large pigtails on either side of the head. The locks are dyed with assorted bright hair colors or a single color, such as vivid purple, blue, pink and red. Fringe bangs of assorted length often accompany this hairstyle. The bangs are usually the same color as whatever hair dye is being used on the dreads. Large sash ribbons are sometimes used to tie the pigtails or are interwoven with the dreads. Dreads can also be pulled back into a high ponytail with loose dreads framing the face and fringed bangs. Not all hair is necessarily dreaded in these hairstyles. • Some punk dreadlock styles for boys tend to be a little less maintained than punk dreadlock hairstyles for girls and can often look messy and unkempt. Dreads can be adorned with metal hair embellishments and beads. Beads can cover dreads from root to tip as well. The beaded look is also popular with shorter dreads that are not quite chin length. Dreads can also be gelled to form a Mohawk, which is all the more dramatic when the rest of the head is shaved. Dread Mohawks can be colored different individual colors or one solid color, depending on preference.
  
  

Androgynous Punk Dreadlock Hairstyle

• A punk dreadlock hairstyle that can work on both girls and boys is one where front bangs are left hanging straight and dreads are gelled so they stick straight out all over the head. This look can be a bit time consuming, as quite a bit of gel is required to make dreads stick straight out. It also works better on shorter dreads, because shorter dreads fall a lot less quickly and are less heavy than long dreadlocks. Dying dreads different colors is not limited to one gender. There are many colored dread hair extensions available for those who enjoy the dreadlock look but perhaps do not have the time to maintain them.
