How to Draw a Toad
- 1). Draw the outline of the toad, starting from the back of its head, with a short line curving downwards. Connect another line to this line which should be straight and slightly angled upwards, and then another joined line that curves downwards to form the toad's back. Draw from the base of the toad's back a short, curved line angled downwards that represents the top of its fully visible hind leg.
- 2). Draw the other hind leg, which is partially hidden by the toad's back. Depict this leg as a semi-circular line which starts from the lower back. The line should curve around to be just visible behind the top of the nearest hind leg and below the back.
- 3). Portray the nearest hind leg, starting from under the thigh and at the bend of the hind leg. Work upwards, drawing a line that curves outwards and then around to the webbed part of the toad's foot. Draw the rest of the hind leg up to the toad's belly.
- 4). Add a curved line to the top of the toad's nearest hind leg. Make the curved line round to emphasize the toad's prominent belly. Draw the only visible and rounded foreleg from the top and outside of the leg, and work down to its two rounded toes.
- 5). Curve the toad's chest, with a line that begins from the inside of the foreleg, up to its throat. Add another curved line to this line, which should curve around to the eye socket on the top of the toad's head, where the eye is hidden.
- 6). Place the one visible nostril at the front of the toad's snout, and then place the eye and large pupil just behind and below this. Shade in the toad beginning from the one hind leg that is completely visible, and work upwards. Use dark and light shading to create the toad's markings.
