How to Make Word Searches Using English Words
- 1). Draw a grid of squares on the graph paper, using the ruler to ensure straight lines. Match the size of the grid to the English vocabulary level, length of words and number of words. A simple word search might be five squares wide and tall, while a more complex adult puzzle might be 20 squares wide and tall.
- 2). Choose the words you want to hide in the puzzle, being sure they are not too long to fit your grid. Make a list of the words so the puzzle solver knows what to look for, or create a set of pictures or other clues to guide the puzzle solver.
- 3). Write the words from your list into the squares, overlapping some and mixing up their directions. Make some read backward, some diagonally, some across, and some up and down.
- 4). Finish the puzzle by filling the blank squares in the grid with random letters to disguise the words.
