What Type of Food for a 50th Anniversary Party?
- Bring back memories of the couple's wedding with a cake that mirrors their original cake. Ask questions and look for photographs of the original wedding cake to model the anniversary version after. If you cannot prepare an exact replica of the original, make a simple dessert with the same flavor and icing in an effort to take the couple's tastebuds back in time.
- If you are celebrating the anniversary with a large group, an outdoor buffet has the space for many people and foods easily served in large quantities. For a meat-loving couple, serve a barbecue buffet, centered around slowly smoked beef brisket and ribs. Prepare your barbecue buffet with brisket, ribs, potato salad and cole slaw for an outdoor event. Cooking a large beef brisket will serve several people as well.
- In honor of the "golden" anniversary, create the menu around a gold theme. Serve bright yellow or golden foods, such as butternut squash soup, pineapple, golden Delicious apples or a gold-leaf decorated cake for dessert. Arrange the food on top of gold doilies and add other gold-toned decorations around the party room to enhance the golden theme.
- For an anniversary attended by a small group of the couple's closest family and friends, host a potluck. Have each guest bring a dish that ties to a special memory with the guests of honor. For instance, the couple who always played bridge with the couple might bring bridge snacks. The couple's daughter might bring her rendition of a favorite dish made by her mother or father. Inquire before the event about who is bringing what to ensure that all the courses are covered.
