How to Take Plant Cuttings
- 1). Fill flower pot half full with loose potting soil.
- 2). Clip the bottom of the plant cutting at a diagonal, as you would flowers in a vase. This allows the plant to draw water up the stem more easily.
- 3). Remove the leaves from the bottom half of the plant cutting.
- 4). Push the bottom half of the cutting into the potting soil, keeping the leaves above the dirt. Gently distribute additional soil around the base of the plant, if necessary.
- 5). Water the plant thoroughly over a sink until water drains out of the bottom of the flower pot.
- 6). Place the plant in a sunny spot, such as a windowsill.
- 7). Check the cutting every two weeks for root growth. Once roots have appeared, you may repot (if a houseplant) or plant outside when the weather will support the plant.
