Natural Bedbug Killer - Diathemaceous Earth
We have all heard the horror stories of the bedbug infestations on the news and in the papers.
Personally, this makes my skin crawl, but there is an answer to get rid of these nasty little creatures.
It is also used for fleas and I have had very good luck with it for fleas on my three chihuahua's.
Diathemaceous Earth is a fossilized powder and consists of fossilized remains of diatoms, a type of hard-shelled algae.
It can also be used as a heat thermal! Diathemaceous earth is non-toxic and there are several grades of it.
I use the "Food Grade.
" This only means if you are using it for the riddance of fleas, you can put the DE in the pet's water.
It is not harmful to any animal or human.
It doesn't have a shelf life, but needs to be kept dry.
It can be bought at any farm store where pet products are sold.
Tractor Supply is one example.
It can be bought by 5lb, 10lb bags.
It is very reasonable priced.
I paid $12.
00 for a 5# bag! Find an old shaker bottle like a baby powder bottle and remove the cap and fill the bottle with DE.
Shake the bottle lightly onto the sheets, blankets and any other places you think there is an infestation.
Place all treated materials in a bag and tie shut.
Several hours later the bedbugs will have crawled through the DE, cut through their skeletal body and die.
If you are traveling, carry a small bottle of DE with you.
If you are leery about sleeping in a hotel or motel, treat the linens before you get in bed! Remember it is not toxic and it is as fine as baby powder, but it does make a mess! It is like a very fine dust and settles everywhere.
We haven't bought a bug spray, ant killer or flea killer for months.
I started using DE several months ago when I moved to Florida and my poor little dogs got fleas so bad they were scratching themselves silly.
I went to the feed store and DE was recommended to me.
This has been the best recommendation I have had in years! The first time I used DE, I had it everywhere in my house! On the curtains, the furniture, even the toilet seat because it settles so quickly after it is applied.
I had to vacuum the whole house and then you see the tiny particles in the air.
So take your time and apply it slowly and in small amounts!
