What Forms of ID Are Needed in North Carolina to Get a Picture ID?
- You will need a document with your name and current North Carolina address to use as your proof of residency. These documents include items such as a military order, passport, immigration documents, property tax statement or a library card. For the complete list of eligible documents visit .ncdot.gov and click on "DMV."
- You will also need to provide two forms of proof of age and identification. Eligible documents include items such as an ID card from another state, birth certificate, Social Security card, military ID, passport or marriage certificate.
- You will need to renew your ID every five years, the same as a North Carolina driver's license. Your ID card will expire on your birthday after each five-year period.
- If you lose your ID card you can visit an North Carolina driver's license office to get a replacement. Bring your proof of age and identity and a $10 replacement fee with you.
