Okay,so now you've got the time off work, the kids will be out of school, you're looking forward to a perfect vacation.
So where to go,you might be wondering.
If you've never considered taking a cruise maybe you should look into it.
Cruising is an excellent way to see foreign destinations that you might not otherwise get to see.
There are many cruise lines to choose from and many destinations to see.
Don't have a lot of time for your vacation?Try a short 3 to 5 day cruise from a nearby port.
Carnival,Royal Caribbean,Princess, and many others offer short cruises from ports such as Long Beach,San Diego, Texas, and Florida.
The best way to find a cruise is to first decide how much time you have and where you want go.
Then go online and check out the websites for the different cruise lines.
Most of them will allow you to look at photos and virtual tours of the ships, itineraries, costs, lists of fun things to do on and off ship, and much more.
In some cases the earlier you book the better the deal you will get, but in other cases, close to sail date some cruise lines will discount the stateroom prices to fill the ship.
If you want to choose a specific stateroom type or deck,I recommend booking as far in advance as possible.
In some cases if you book in advance directly through the cruise line you will be eligible for discount or upgrades as the sail date gets closer.
Do your research to choose a cruise line that suits your needs.
Cruising is an excellent way to spend time with family.
Most cruise lines have kids camps on board that offer free activities/babysitting during daylight hours and babysitting for a small fee at night so parents can spend some quality time gambling, watching one of the excellent shows, relaxing in one of the many bars or lounges or just enjoying a romantic stroll on deck.
Cruising is also a fun way to get the whole family together for a reunion,or a wedding.
Yes,you can get married on the ship.
All ships have a wedding chapel and a representative to help you plan your perfect day.
When booking a wedding or reunion make sure you check into discounts for groups.
Most offer them and if planned early enough you can get all the staterooms together.
What are the rooms like?Well, there is a variety of staterooms to choose from.
You have interior staterooms which are the least expensive but have no view of the ocean, there are ocean view staterooms with a window or two portholes to look out at the ocean and ports,on the longer cruises you can get a balcony stateroom with a private balcony, then,if you really want to spend the money you can get a suite.
Suites have a balcony, more space to move around in,separate sitting areas, and many other ammenities.
Check out the virtual tours and photos of the various staterooms on the cruise lines website.
I can say from experience that on the longer cruises,7 nights and longer it is worth getting a balcony room, port side.
There is nothing that compares to waking up in the morning and sitting on your balcony watching the port come into view as the ship is docking.
Not only is cruising a great experience for adults,it gives kids an opportunity they might not otherwise have to see other parts of the world.
If you look into it and compare the costs of a cruise vacation to the cost of a driving vacation you might just be surprised.
Remember that the cost you see per person for a stateroom includes, the room, food, entertainment and transportation (the cruise ship) for your whole trip.
All you pay for is drinks,a soda card is usually available for purchase at the beginning of the cruise and gets you sodas and juice from the bars without additional cost, and anything you buy from the wonderful variety of duty-free shops onboard.
Most cruise lines also have ice cream shops, coffee shops, and specialty food resaurants for a fee.
During your cruise you are sure to make new friends, at dinner in the main dining hall you will have the same wait staff for the entire cruise and sometimes you even run into them in other areas of the ship.
They treat you like royalty, even if you're not! They always remember your name, your favorite drink, dessert, dinner preferences, etc and always have a smile on their face.
Your stateroom attendant leaves towel animals in your room at night and if you want to have some fun with that, leave a pair of sunglasses and/or afun hat out in the room when you leave.
Your towel animal might just be wearing it when you return! Most importantly, relax and have fun! There are many activities to do on board and they vary by cruise line.
There are so many fun things to do from watching shows,to enjoying the sun by the pool,to karaoke, games on board, gambling in the casino, shopping the duty free shops, dancing in the lounges,a relaxing massage or facial in the ships spa,or just relax on your balcony or on deck with a good book.
You set the pace and have the time of your life!
