How to Install a Hammock Swing
- 1). Choose two trees that are at least a foot in diameter each. The trees must be strong enough to support he weight of the hammock and your weight as well.
- 2). Measure the length of the hammock swing and add 12 inches to that figure. Measure the distance between the two trees and be sure they're at least that far apart. You need room for the hammock to swing freely between the two trees.
- 3). Determine how far up the trees the hammock swing should be hung. The hammock should be high enough to accommodate the length of the swing itself, plus 6 to 8 inches to give you room for the swing to come down with your weight.
- 4). Mark a spot on each tree at the height you've chosen to hang the hammock swing. Drill a starter hole in each tree, then insert a screw hook into each hole. Tighten the screw hooks until they won't turn any farther.
- 5). Position the two hooks so they're facing upwards, then place the end of the hammock swing over one hook. Place the other end of the hammock swing over the other hook, then test the swing by sitting on it and swinging lightly.
