Adolescence is a transitional stage of psychological development. The human brain is not developed by the time a person reaches this stage. The brain undergoes lots of changes in terms of behavior. At this stage an individual's thoughts start taking more of an abstract form. The thoughts developed at this stage greatly influence one's future. Its a very critical and sensitive stage and one need lots of guidance at this stage. Teens may develop elaborate beliefs of their own. They will be emotionally intense, desperately wants to achieve every goal and desire of fulfilling every wish. They want to be individualistic and also they show self centeredness.Self esteem stays highly stable in adolescence. They often do not think before do something. But many times teens make choices that have long-term and far-reaching  consequences. Some times they even show negative behavior..Parents feel that their teens are careless and irresponsible and on the other hand teens feel that they are over protected and they want to be treated as adults. If they fail to achieve what they want it may put them into danger by leading to depression and also it may leads to risky and harmful consequences.

As teens begin to think more like adults, they are better able to form adult relationships. Theybegin to think more realistically about their places in society. At about this time, teens often reestablish the warm relationship with their parents that might have become strained duringthe early teen years.

Parents must now be prepared to recognize that their teens think like adults. The parent-child relationship can never return to what it was before adolescence. The task becomes one of establishing the special relationship that can exist between two adults who also happen to be parent and child.

Parents should understand these changes in thinking and act smart and they can teach important critical skills in terms of thinking. Parents can express caring without arguing. Teens need to be guided properly through out childhood which helps them to face all sorts of situation. As they gain more experience they make better decisions by making not so good decisions.
