Problems With Nuvi 660

36
    • The Nuvi 660, a Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation unit, belongs to the Garmin automotive product family. It uses the United States GPS satellites to pinpoint its precise location and then shows that information using the maps loaded on the unit. The 660 provides detailed driving directions including turn-by-turn voice prompts and a map with a highlighted route to follow.

    No Satellite Signals

    • Your Nuvi 660 must receive signals from at least three GPS satellites to calculate its two dimensional position---its latitude and longitude---and four satellite signals to add altitude. Without GPS satellite signals, the 660 cannot calculate routes for you. You can do a few things about the lack of signals. First, check the antenna. If it remains in the down position, the unit will not try to acquire satellite signals. Also, tall buildings, tree canopies and anything else that obstructs the sky can block the ability to get signals. Go to a clear area with no tall barriers.

    Battery Gauge

    • The battery gauge appears as a row of green vertical bars in the upper right corner of the Nuvi 660. The more green bars you see, the more power remains in your rechargeable batteries. Your battery gauge may not be completely accurate at times, however. If so, you may be able to fix the problem by allowing your batteries to drain completely and then recharging them to full capacity without interrupting the charge. Also, keep the unit and batteries out of excessive heat or direct sunlight; doing so will help the batteries last longer.

    Computer Doesn't See The Nuvi

    • You can connect the Nuvi to your computer via a USB cord. If your computer doesn't appear to recognize the Nuvi, disconnect the Nuvi. Turn it on and then off to reset it, then attempt to hook it up to the computer a second time. The 660 is not compatible with Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows Me. The Nuvi 660 should go directly into USB Mass Storage Mode.
