Do Ultraviolet Air Purifiers Actually Work?

19
Ultraviolet air purifiers use the right amount of energy to break the organic molecular bonds.
There are two main systems available for home usage.
There is a portable unit used for purifying the air in a single room.
In addition, a whole house unit works with the air ducts in the home.
How do ultraviolet air purifiers actually work? As microorganisms pass by the UV rays, the rays cause cellular or genetic damage to them.
This is how the germs, bacteria, viruses and mold are destroyed.
These devices have proven to be very effective at purifying the air in people's home.
There are three ranges of ultraviolet wavelengths.
Ultraviolet air purifiers use what is called UV-C, which is short wave, which is proven strong enough to damage the DNA of the air borne microorganisms.
Viruses do not have a protective cell wall, which is why they are easily destroyed by this method.
Ultraviolet air purifiers need to be cleaned on a regular basis.
If not cleaned they can accumulate a buildup of various fungal species.
If there is a moisture buildup along with a buildup of dead insects in the filter then what could happen is the filter could reproduce the very micro-organisms that they are designed to destroy.
Researchers have been attempting to resolve this problem by using anti-microbial filters.
This has resulted in mixed results however.
Another option is a medical grade UV light, which should kill the microorganisms.
Ultraviolet air purifiers are not perfect but they are still effective.
Further studies have concluded that ultraviolet air purifiers installed in the air duct systems of office buildings would be able to reduce the number of respiratory symptoms that are reported by many office workers.
Thus, in conclusion, ultraviolet air purifiers can help reduce the number of harmful microorganisms in a home but their effectiveness is still being debated.
