How to Build a Bike Rack for a Truck
- 1). Measure the inside width of your pickup bed above the wheel wells. Cut the 6-foot board to fit inside the bed of the pickup using this measurement. Using the remaining length of the board, cut two equal-length pieces. These will be used to stabilize the bike rack. Screw the two remaining pieces of cut board lengthwise, one on each end, onto the main board using the deck screws. It's best to use four screws in each end.
- 2). Place the locking bike rack skewer and the wheel fork on the board where you want to mount your bike and wheel. Take care to leave some adequate space between the two for bike and wheel installation. Mark spots to drill holes by making a dot with a marker in the middle of the installation holes on the locking bike rack skewer and wheel fork. Drill the holes.
- 3). Bolt the locking bike rack skewer and the wheel fork to the main board using the 6mm bolts and locking nuts. Secure tightly. Place the rack in the back of the pickup truck.
