Instructions to Tie Two Half-Hitches for Boaters
- 1). Wrap the free end of the rope around a sturdy object such as a post or tree. Wrap the rope around the object one more time for increased holding power.
- 2). Pull the free end of the rope forward so it is parallel to the main rope.
- 3). Cross the free end over the main rope forming a loop just in front of the post or tree.
- 4). Wrap the free end of the rope around the main rope, under and up through the loop in front of the post or tree to form the first half-hitch.
- 5). Pull the free end back alongside the main line but do not tighten the knot at this point.
- 6). Cross the free end of the rope over the main length once again to form a loop in front of the first half-hitch. Wrap the free end around the main length of rope, under and up through the loop in front of the first half-hitch.
- 7). Pull the free end of the rope back alongside the main length to tighten the knot.
