How to Change a 1999 Chevy Malibu Headlamp

49
    • 1). Turn on the headlights, and identify which light is burned out. The 1999 Malibu has a separate high beam and low beam bulb in each assembly.

    • 2). Pull the hood release on the left side of the dash, and raise the hood. Remove the trim panel above the headlight assembly. Pry up on the small inserts in the center of the plastic retaining clips using a small screwdriver, and pull the retaining clips out of the panel. Lift the panel off the radiator core, and lay it aside.

    • 3). Remove the headlight assembly by pulling out and lifting up on the two sliding release tabs that attach the headlight assembly to the front of the car. The release tabs are located on the aiming adjusters located on the ends of the headlight assembly. Pull the assembly forward to gain access to the back of it.

    • 4). Twist the locking ring on the back of the headlight assembly counterclockwise, and pull the headlight bulb from the back of the assembly. Press down on the locking tab on the electrical connector, and pull the bulb from the connector.

    • 5). Install the new light -- without touching the glass part of the bulb -- into the headlight assembly, and twist the locking ring clockwise until it locks into place. Plug the electrical connector into the new bulb.

    • 6). Reinstall the headlight assembly into position, and push down on the sliding release tabs. Reinstall the plastic trim panel, and push the retaining clips into the holes in the panel.
