DIY: RV Plans
- Gather a paper, pencil, ruler and scissors to map out the plans. Decide what kind of vehicle you will use. The best type is a large conversion van. Draw an empty floor plan on your paper. If you draw it to some type of scale, it will make things easier as you go along. Be sure to keep the scale consistent throughout the plans.
- Make templates of furniture and appliances and move the templates over the floor plan until you decide how you like it. Using the empty floor plan, figure out your electricity layout. You want to put electricity anywhere near appliances such as stoves or even televisions. This way you don't have to run cords throughout the RV. Windows may need to be added to the car or van. If windows need to be added, figure out where they will go. Position them where they will be far enough away from the bed for privacy.
- If you are adding a bathroom, figure out how the plumbing is going to run. You want this to be in a location where you can run holding tanks to. Remember the weight restrictions of the vehicle. The size of the tanks should comply with this. You will need a freshwater, gray water (sink and shower runoff) and black (waste) tank.
