How to Add Refrigerant to Your Car

10
    • 1). Locate the service fitting for the A/C inside the car engine. The fitting is either a low side or a high side fitting. Find a low side fitting by the suction hose or line that feeds from the accumulator to the compressor, or find a high fitting located on the line that goes from the compressor to the condenser. The fitting looks like a 'T' with a threaded fitting sticking up. The evaporator and blower is at the back of the engine, toward the cabin of the vehicle. The condenser and fan are at the front of the vehicle. You can follow the high pressure tube leading from the condenser to the compressor.

    • 2). Connect the recharge service hose that comes with the refrigerant can to the can and the 'T' fitting.

    • 3). Turn the valve that is connected to the service hose to puncture and open the can.

    • 4). Slowly turn the valve of the service hose to begin releasing refrigerant.

    • 5). Hold the can upright until the gauge on the can says the A/C is full. If the can does not have a gauge, purchase one to check the refrigerant level.

    • 6). Turn on the car and run the A/C to check the unit. If it doesn't turn on, you will need to add more refrigerant.
