If you have a dog, no matter what the situation, you want them to be trained.
You want them to be obedient and know and follow all of your rules.
In fact, if you don't train your dog and you don't teach them the rules that you expect them to follow, it actually isn't fair to the dog.
Because you'll probably hold that dog in resentment and have a very tough relationship with them.
What, then, are the absolute must-know commands that all dogs (and dog owners) should know, and why? Down is an incredibly important command for them to learn, particularly if they're going to be inside or interacting with people frequently.
If you want them to be able to stop what they're doing and take a break, you need to teach them the down command.
Not only this, but this command is the foundation for many other, more complex and advanced commands.
Heel is typically the next one that is taught.
It is very important that your dog knows how to walk next to you without pulling on the leash.
If your dog gets away from you at any point that you're outside, there is a huge risk that they will either disrupt other people's lives by jumping or barking at them, or they may even put themselves into danger by running away or in front of a car.
The best way to start this is to establish yourself as the pack leader, or alpha dog, very early in your training.
Once you do this, your dog will naturally listen to everything that you say.
