How Much For A White Wedding?

14
Discussions about wedding costs tend to focus on the total cost of the evnt and how it is one of the most expensice single days of anyones life. However there is not a new twist to the cost of getting married - as if there weren't enough costs already!

Fine on Non-Virgins?
One Romanian priest wants women who are not virgins to pay a fine if they wear white on their wedding day. Father Petrica Bratu, 37, suggests that the women pay a fine of 10 if the couple had just moved in tighter, but pregnant brides would pay 60. The average salary in Romania is 100 per month.

Is White the Only Color?
While this Romanian priest takes one view of wearing white on a wedding day, there are a lot of other traditional views of the white wedding dress. In fact, the tradition of wearing a white wedding dress is fairly recent. The white wedding dress came into fashion at the marriage of Queen Victoria to her cousin Albert of Saxe-Coburg in 1840. Prior to that date, wedding dresses were made in a variety of colors.

There is an old poem about how the color of the wedding dress impacts the bride's future:

Married in white, you will have chosen all right.
Married in gray, you will go far away.
Married in black, you will wish yourself back.
Married in red, you will wish yourself dead.
Married in blue, you will always be true.
Married in pearl, you'll live in a whirl.
Married in green, ashamed to be seen.
Married in yellow, ashamed of the fellow.
Married in brown, you'll live out of town.
Married in pink, of you he'll think.

For the most part, brides usually wore their best looking dress for their wedding. However, the industrial revolution brought with it the capability to mass-produce wedding dresses, so by 1890 the elaborate white dress tradition was born. Some brides believe that the white signifies virtue and virginity. Others believe it symbolizes the pure of heart and innocence of childhood. Still, others believe it symbolizes youth and joy.

Your wedding day is your day to look and feel beautiful. Whether you choose a traditional white dress or want to add a little color, the choice is yours. Just remember to shop around for the dress that fits your budget and makes you look your best on your special day.

What About the Men?
We don't know for crtain what the gender of the priest is, but it must be a pretty sure guess that he is a man. So who is going to fine the men who are not virgins? After all one of the key words now is equality!
