14
Decades of research and medical experience have shown how much obesity is harmful to health. The health costs of excessive weight in 2010 for the US is huge and is above 100 billion dollars per year. What seems contradictory is the billions that are also allocated to weight reduction products on a yearly basis. The US is slowly putting on more weight with each passing year, or so it appears. Several culprits that only worsen this state of affairs are companies that produce ready-made foods and unhealthy drinks. There is undoubtedly no secret that countless foods include high sugar and fat content. We only have room for a few of the hazards due to obesity.

Millions of individuals in the US are afflicted by Type 2 diabetes, and the principal cause of it points to obesity. What is now even more alarming is the soaring number of cases of this condition in young people who are also severely overweight. The start of diabetes occurs because research has demonstrated a high link between insulin resistance and morbid obesity. The situation is made much more serious with daily consumption of excessive amounts of sugar containing goods. Many institutions and people have tried to make the public aware of high fructose corn syrup in many drinks. This substance is a lot like super strong sugar and will send blood sugar levels soaring.

Early complications affecting joints can often be a side effect of the obese problem. The primary parts are the weight bearing joints including hips, knees and ankles. Osteoarthritis is frequently seen in these circumstances as well due to joint damage. However, the answer is not always so clear-cut as merely replacing a destroyed joint. People that are not obese can generally have successful joint replacement surgical treatment. Naturally only a doctor can make the final decision for those with substantial weight problems. There are specific risks inherent if surgery happens simply because of the mechanics of the general situation. The joint that had been changed may begin to be mechanically unsound which is highly undesirable.

Problems are extremely common concerning the heart and especially high blood pressure. It seems that pretty much every major function in the body is challenged. The existence of so much fat is just a huge demand for oxygen that is furnished by the blood. It all leads back to the heart certainly since that is what moves the blood. The basic net effect is to produce a condition of higher blood pressure. In addition to the high blood pressure, the heart rate is going to be greater as well.

It is quite obvious that obesity is a problem that seriously impacts all functions of the body. But our conversation here today is only the tip of the iceberg with regards to all that is possible.
