How to Charge a Honda AC
- 1). Allow the Honda's engine to cool for at least 20 minutes before you begin any work under the hood.
- 2). Locate the air conditioning service fittings. Refer to your owner's manual for exact location. The high- side fitting will be found on the hose that runs from the compressor to the condenser. The low-side fitting is located on the suction hose running from the accumulator to the compressor.
- 3). Assemble the refrigerant can by attaching the hose to the valve. Instructions can be found on the side of the can.
- 4). Puncture the top of the refrigerant can by turning the valve to the "On" position. This will release a bit of air and coolant so make sure to close the valve immediately to prevent loss of extra coolant.
- 5). Connect the service hose to the low-side fitting on the AC unit. Hold the can upright while you charge the unit.
- 6). Start the Honda's engine and turn the air conditioner to the highest setting. Open the service hose valve on the refrigerant can to allow the coolant to flow into the AC system. Climb into the Honda and feel the air blowing out of the vents; as the coolant charges the system, you should feel the air getting cooler.
- 7). Close the hose valve and turn the Honda engine off when the AC is fully charged. You can charge the air conditioning unit until the air does not get any colder or until the can of refrigerant is empty. Disconnect the can from the low-side fitting. Repeat these steps any time your Honda's air conditioning needs to be recharged.
