Iowa Fishing Vacations
- The Driftless Area is quickly becoming recognized as a national treasure by trout anglers. The area encompasses northeast Iowa, southwest Wisconsin, southeast Minnesota and a small part of northwest Illinois. The Driftless Area is home to countless spring-fed trout streams that are especially popular with fly fisherman. You can find lodging at hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts or you can camp. Being mobile will allow you to visit a larger variety of waters and potentially catch more and larger fish.
- Northern Iowa is home to scenic hardwood forests and the deep lake waters hold healthy populations of pike and walleye. There are an abundance of campgrounds in the area. Anglers looking for more accommodating forms of lodging will find lakeside rentals and motels that cater to anglers throughout the area. Many of the lakes require a boat for a successful fishing trip and anglers without access to a boat can find rentals associated with some of the waterfront lodging options.
- Many of Iowa's farmers diversify their income by renting a guest house to hunters and anglers. Most of the farms do not have advanced websites to market their services, but they can be found through local chamber of commerce websites and regional newspapers. Farms with bass ponds are ideal for a fishing vacation because they will provide a quiet atmosphere, and many of the ponds will hold trophy bass and healthy populations of bluegill.
- Clear Lake is a popular destination for boating and angling in Iowa. The lake has numerous rental accommodations available and the state park section offers a waterfront campground. The lake has several marinas for parking and renting boats, and the surrounding community offers shopping and restaurants. Anglers will find excellent fishing for pike, walleye, muskie, catfish, crappie and bass and non-anglers will find entertainment in the town or on one of several beaches.
