American Health Care Academy Gives Back to the Community - cpr
The North Texas Food bank received a helping hand on October 29th, 2008, when volunteers from the American Health Care Academy donated their time and energy to help others in need. Volunteers helped to prepare boxes full of canned goods in the food distribution warehouse to supply area residents with much-needed pantry items.
The North Texas Food Bank is a non-profit organization located in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, supplying prepared, purchased, or donated foods to 13 area counties. They strive to stop hunger in these counties by providing nutritious food items to needy families. The food bank operates numerous programs, including on-site meal programs, free prepared meals, deliveries of pantry items, and advocacy services help these families to find the food they need. It is known as the largest food bank in the entire state of Texas.
The food bank works in cooperation with Feeding America (formerly America's Second Harvest). During 2007 they delivered more than 26 million meals, aided over 50,000 families, and served 435,000 snacks/meals at on-site locations. In addition, every dollar donated to the food bank can purchase $10 worth of food through partnerships with food manufacturers and warehouses.
Food bank volunteers are a vital asset, as they provide a much needed service for thousands of area residents while helping the organization to avoid employee expenses. Volunteers serve in numerous ways and in various locations in the service area.
When the American Health Care Academy contacted the North Texas Food Bank, staff members were delighted to welcome them and accept their volunteerism. The need for food is at an all-time high due to the state of our economy, rampant unemployment, and other factors. These volunteers offered their time and services at a moment when it was needed the most. They worked diligently throughout the entire day, preparing huge boxes of non-perishable food items. Through their generosity, numerous families in the region will be blessed in the days to follow.
The American Health Care Academy is a nationally certified online CPR certification and First Aid certification provider, with their base located in Texas. Through their program students can gain certification or re-certification on their own time, at their own pace, and in the comfort of their own homes. These online classes are taught by certified CPR and First Aid instructors. Upon completion of the online classes, students can print out their own First Aid and CPR certification cards.
