How to Fold a Round Bow From a Ribbon
- 1). Cut 3 to 5 yards of woven ribbon with fabric scissors, depending on your desired finished bow size. Cut ends of ribbon on the bias to prevent fraying.
- 2). Hold one end of ribbon in between your thumb and index finger. The wider you spread your fingers, the larger bow becomes when opened.
- 3). Wind ribbon around your thumb as a holding point. According to Well-Chosen-Gift.com, "Wind the ribbon around your thumb and back around your fingertips." Keep ribbon aligned as you continue to wind it. The more wound ribbon rotations, the fuller finished round ribbon bow appears.
- 4). Remove wound ribbon around your fingers and pinch center. This will form two loops at each opposite end. Extend ribbon ends to edge of each loop.
- 5). Fold loop at pinched center and flatten with your fingers. Hold folded loops firmly in one hand.
- 6). Cut away corners by cutting two separate diagonal lines along pinched center forming a v-shape. Leave center of folded loop intact and do not cut away. Open folded loop to expose center inverted v-shape.
- 7). Re-fold loop along cut v-shape. Slip a narrow width curling ribbon such as 1/8 or 1/4 inch width, through v-shape and tie. Keep knot and tie ends to bottom of loops.
- 8). Insert your fingers through loops and hold ribbon tautly with one hand. Pull one loop out with your opposite hand and twist firmly in your direction. Well-Chosen-Gift.com further states, "The twist keeps the loops separated at their base, so each loop can be adjusted independently."
- 9). Continue to pull and twist each remaining loop as in step 8, alternating hands. Continue steps 8 and 9 until the round bow appears. Adjust fullness on wrapped gift and trim away any uneven tie ends.
