iBook Internet Sharing: DS Tutorial
- 1). Open System Preferences. Click on the Apple logo in the upper-left corner of the screen and select "System Preferences" by left-clicking on it. Alternatively, you may click on the "System Preferences" icon in the Dock, located on the bottom of your iBook's screen.
- 2). Open the Sharing control panel. Click on the "Sharing" icon under the Internet & Wireless heading.
- 3). Open Internet sharing preferences. Depending on the version of Mac OS X your iBook has, the Internet Sharing menu may be listed in the left-hand column of the Sharing control panel, or it may be listed as a tab across the top of the screen.
- 4). Select the connection to share. Using the drop-down menu, select the Internet connection you want to share with other devices. Most iBooks have only two-choices--AirPort and Ethernet--unless you have configured additional Bluetooth connections or mobile Internet devices.
- 5). Select how to share the connection. Once you pick the connection to share, you must select the medium through which to share the connection with other devices. Check the box next to the name of the protocol you want to use to share the connection.
- 6). Configure the options. If you are sharing a wired connection over AirPort, click "AirPort Options" to choose network name and to enable WEP encryption to keep unauthorized parties from accessing your iBook's Internet sharing connection.
- 7). Connect the devices. All wireless-equipped devices, including other computers, video game systems and cell phones, will be able to connect to your iBook Internet sharing connection. Remember that the bandwidth available to each device will be reduced as more users and devices connect to your iBook's Internet sharing connection.
