9
    • 1). Log in to the system by typing the correct user name and password into the appropriate input boxes. Wait until the program verifies the information and give you access to the system. The main program interface will load after successful logon.

    • 2). Go to the appropriate window or screen by either clicking the command from the menu or pressing key combination on the keyboard. For example, to open the "Employee Data" window, the program may have the menu options "Transaction>Open Windows>Employee Information". Use the mouse to select the options. Alternately, you may press the keys "Ctrl" + "O" to open the same screen, but using the keyboard instead. Wait for the form to show up.

    • 3). Examine the window that loads. If you use the program for the first time, pay attention to the controls you see on the interface to find out how they function. A screen that displays information usually has labels, text fields to input data, and buttons you can press to execute a command. The controls you will see are arranged and labeled in a way that a user understands.

    • 4). Determine the method how you will input your search criteria into the form. If the program accepts input id through a search box, you will see a blank text box on the form with a "Search" button next to it. Type the employee's ID into the box and press "Search" button afterward. Some program layouts doesn't have a blank text box to type your input, but has a "Search" button that pops up an input box after you click it. If this is the case, click the button and type the employee id into the box then press "OK."

    • 5). Wait for the query results to be displayed on the form. Computer speed, number of records in the database, and network traffic all contribute to the amount of time needed to display employee data. If no results are returned, you will be notified through a message box.

    • 6). Search another record by typing another input ID into the search box and running the query again.

    • 7). Close the window and terminate the program when you are done.
