6 Reasons For Permanent Hair Removal

24
Every human culture has developed societal norms for either the presence or absence of hair, and few cities in the world can claim bragging rights to as many cultures as New York City. Hair removal practices have existed for both men and women for centuries, and although they have changed throughout time, the trend is leaning towards permanent hair removal in NYC.

Let's explore six top reasons.

Sexual and cultural

Every world culture has developed societal standards for men and women. Hair that falls outside of these cultural values can be viewed as offensive or embarrassing.  For instance; exposed leg or underarm hair for women in western societies is considered distasteful and unhygienic, making permanent hair removal in NYC very popular, whereas shaved legs and underarms in parts of Western Europe are viewed as acceptable and common place. A clean-shaven look for men, in Western cultures is the norm, whereas in some Muslim cultures, men are required to grow beards.  Western men and some women shave their heads as a political or fashion statement.  In India, up until 50 years ago, widows in some regions were required to shave their heads after the death of their husbands.

Medical

As a medial preparation, patients have the surgical area shaved or removed with depilatories, although historically, body hair was removed to combat lice infestations.

Military

A close-cropped cut and a clean-shaven look for men in the military is a mandatory requirement. This is believed to make soldiers less susceptible to lice and parasites and less vulnerable in hand-to-hand combat while providing a more air-tight seal for military regulation equipment.

Gender reassignment

Transgender women often decide to remove both facial and body hair in order to provide a more feminine appearance. Often this can be a long and painful process that can take up to four years.

Sports

For cyclists, the ability to easily clean up an injury in case of an accident, prevention of skin rash from shin guards for soccer players and preventing drag in the water for swimmers, are reasons why road cyclists, swimmers and soccer players shave their legs.

Religion

Hair removal, in particular, head-shaving is part of many religions including; Christian, Muslim, Buddhist and Hindu customs.  Christian and Buddhist monks are required to submit to head-shaving during their ordination.  Thai monks take hair removal even farther by shaving their heads and eyebrows.  In Judaism, women and men are not allowed to shave their heads for a month after the death of a family member but otherwise, have no obligation to either remove or keep hair. The Baha'i Faith does not recommend head-shaving except in medical circumstances and Muslim law has very specific requirements for body hair, which they place in three categories.

Although there are many more reasons for the presence or absence of tresses, whether religious or cultural values, preparing for surgery or adhering to work, sports or societal norms, permanent hair removal nyc is the popular trend.
