Simona ia a true Cat of the World, in that she and David first met in Bogotá. David and a former girlfriend saw Simona in a pet shop and according to David, she picked him. David had not had a cat since he was 12, and Simona was only three months old, so it took a little time for adjusting to the role of "Cat Dad."

Awhile later, they decided Simona needed a "brother," so they adopted Matariel, a nice male cat who helped to temper Simona's aggressive tendencies.
