The Rights for the Health Insurance Affordability Act
- Currently many insurance plans contain maximum dollar amounts for coverage either per year or lifetime. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act eliminates these limits.
- The proposed Senate bill says that health insurance companies can no longer limit or deny coverage to individuals based on medical conditions or overall "health status." This includes eliminating any denial of coverage for pre-existing conditions.
- Both the Medicare and Medicaid government plans would be expanded under the Senate bill. The bill also allows for individual states to create insurance plans for low-income individuals who do not qualify for Medicaid.
- Under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, insurance companies will be required to cover preventive care, and individuals will not need to pay co-pays or deductibles for these services.
- Everyone will be required to have some form of medical insurance if the Senate bill passes.
