How to Avoid Yawning
- 1). Get enough sleep. Yawning can be an indicator that you're not getting enough sleep or that you're not getting restful sleep. Make your bedroom a comfortable place to rest. Use a fan or white-noise machine in your room to drown out background noises, or if you find it difficult to sleep in silence.
- 2). Distract yourself. Keep yourself entertained to prevent boredom from creeping up on you and causing you to yawn. Play a game, listen to music, watch a movie, read a book, etc. If you feel a yawn coming on, quickly think about something else.
- 3). Take a deep breath. Since oxygen deprivation may be a contributing factor to yawning, a few deep breaths should curb yawning.
- 4). Drink some water. Drinking a glass of water may help you to breathe more normally and suppress a yawn.
