Kodenkan Jujitsu Techniques
- Kodenkan Jujitsu "Yawara" techniques are methods of hand-to-hand combat including wrist locks, arm locks, finger locks, submission holds, strangles and escapes. Yawara techniques are based on the principles of physics such as the lever and fulcrum. They were developed out of an older system known as Daito Ryu Aikijitsu.
- The "Nage no Kata" are the throwing techniques of Kodenkan Jujitsu, including foot and thigh sweeps, hip and shoulder throws, drops and circle throws. The Nage no Kata also include a technique called Yama Arashi or Mountain Storm. This technique is famous, because it was the technique used by the legendary Judo player Shiro Saigo to win many of his matches in the early days of Judo.
- Kodenkan Jujitsu has a set of grappling techniques known as "Shime Te." Another set of techniques, called Fusegi Jitsu, is used for practical self-defense. The Kodenkan system also includes weapon techniques, techniques of strength training and methods of reviving an unconscious training partner or adversary. Some schools of Kodenkan Jujitsu use the term "Shime no Kata" instead of Shime Te. There is also a set of techniques called Goshin Jitsu, including an additional set of escapes, holds and throws.
- Like many classical Japanese martial arts, Kodenkan Jujitsu contains secret techniques. Starting with the Chuden, or middle level techniques, the methods are taught only at the instructor's discretion and are not publicly available. The highest levels of technique are completely secret. The "Shinyo no Maki" and "Shingen no Maki" arts are never even demonstrated in public. They are taught only to those who have proven themselves to be worthy of the secret information.
