How to Hook Up a Power Flo II Series Pool Pump
- 1). Set the Power Flo pump on even ground next to the electric source. Screw the pump onto the base to cut down on vibration. If you did not purchase the base, place the pump on cement slabs or brick to prevent grass and weeds from growing up and around the Power Flo pump
- 2). Connect the Power Flo pump to the filter housing. Apply plumber's tape to the male end of the connection prior to tightening it.
- 3). Attach a pool hose from the pool filter outlet to the pool return. If using the screw-on type of hose, use plumbers tape on the male end of the hose. If you using the clamp-on type of hose, dip the open end of the hose in hot water for about five seconds to make it more pliable. Pliable hoses are much easier to stretch over the inlet and outlet.
- 4). Connect the hose from the pool skimmer to the intake on the Power Flo II. The intake is located right in front of the pump basket. If your pool has a skimmer and a main drain, you'll have to purchase an adapter so that both the skimmer and main drain can funnel into the Power Flo's intake. You can purchase an adapter at a pool supply store.
- 5). Check the Power Flo II pump basket to make sure water is in it. The Power Flo II is a self-priming pump but it needs water in the pump basket to self prime. If water did not flow into the basket when you connected to the skimmer and/or main drain, loosen the pump basket lid and water will flow in. Once water is in the basket, tighten the lid.
- 6). Open the air valve on the pool filter housing. The pool pump and filter system operate in a vacuum environment. By opening the air valve, the trapped air has a place to escape when the filter is first turned on.
- 7). Plug in the Power Flo and turn on the filter. When the water begins to escape through the air valve, close it.
