Star Trek DVD On The Way
On the eve of the release of Star Trek on DVD [http://newstartrekmovie.net], Bryan weighs in on his thoughts about the new feature, the extras for the DVD, and how delightful it is to be a Star Trek fan right now.
When it was released in late 2007 that a new Star Trek movie was being commissioned by Paramount Pictures I was both excited and skeptical. I was excited, as a long time fan, because I had viewed the last few Star Trek films, featuring the Next Generation cast, as abominations. I knew we were due for a good Star Trek, finally.
But, I was also cautious because, quite frankly, it had been so long since a quality Trek feature had come out. I knew we were due, but I was dreading another lousy episodic adventure.
So, I was full of emotions, went I went to see Star Trek at the theater. However, within a few minutes, my apprehension melted away into joy as I simply enjoyed the film for what it was: A great cinematic adventure.
Now, as 2009 turns to the fall, I am eagerly awaiting the release of the new Star Trek DVD and Blu-Ray. I have seen the contents for this new release and I believe we are all in for a treat.
J.J. Abrams has left nothing on the cutting room floor and, as a result, we fans will be treated to deleted scenes as well as Abrams' trademark insightful commentary.
The pre-release press materials indicate that the DVD will include auditions from the actors as well as behind-the-scenes looks at the making of the movie as well as the production design and special effects. I, for one, could truly not be more excited.
I think that this new DVD is a must have for Trekkies everywhere and I encourage all true fans to pick it up as soon as it becomes available.
