How to Do an English Deer Mount
- 1). Skin the entire skull of any of the fur or outside skin. Clean the skull of all meat that can be removed at this time. Place the skull in the large pot with a mixture of the 2 heaping tsp. Sal Soda, 2 heaping tsp. of salt, and three qts. of water.
- 2). Bring the mixture to a boil and let the entire skull simmer for at least one hour. Watch the skull in the boiling solution and when the meat begins to be like a jelly-like substance, it is time to remove the skull. Before you lift the skull from the pot, skim off any fat on the surface of the water.
- 3). Remove the skull from the solution in the pot and begin scraping the remaining meat and tissue form the skull. Use a screwdriver and remove any other meat or brain tissue from the skull. Next, using the toothbrush, scrub the skull and remove debris left behind from the boiling process. Rinse the skull several times with clean, hot tap water to remove residue from any sockets, cracks, etc., on the skull.
- 4). Use the 3 percent hydrogen peroxide and the large container and submerge the entire skull in the solution. Keep the antlers out of the solution. Let the skull soak in this solution for 24 to 48 hours. Wearing rubber gloves, remove the skull from the container and rinse with clean, cold water several times to be sure the solution is removed from the skull.
- 5). Place the skull in a sunny area protected from critters for approximately three days. Using super-glue gel, you can now glue any bone fragments and teeth that may have come loose back into the skull. Glue the upper and lower jaw bones back together.
- 6). Spray the entire skull with the fungicidal sealer once it dries. Next, spray the skull with the wet-look gloss spray to add the desired shine.
