How to Replace an AC Fan in a 1997 Acura TL

    • 1). Open the TL's hood. Loosen and remove the negative battery cable, using a ratchet and socket.

    • 2). Jack up the front of the TL and secure it with jack stands.

    • 3). Crawl beneath the front of the TL. Loosen the two bolts at the base of the air-conditioning condenser fan assembly, the fan assembly on the driver's side of the radiator, using a ratchet and socket. Do not remove the bolts, as they will act as a guide for installation.

    • 4). Disconnect the wires plugging into the rear of the TL's fan. Loosen and remove the upper fan bolt, using a ratchet and socket and pull the fan assembly from the engine bay.

    • 5). Lay the fan assembly with the fan facing upward. Loosen and remove the nut in the center of the fan, with a ratchet and socket, and pull the fan from the assembly.

    • 6). Sit the new fan on the fan assembly and tighten the fan nut, with a ratchet and socket.

    • 7). Place the fan assembly back into the TL, guiding the slots at the bottom of the fan onto the bolts at the base of the radiator and hand-tighten the upper fan assembly bolt. Tighten the lower fan assembly bolts, with a ratchet and socket.

    • 8). Raise the vehicle from the jack stands, using the floor jack , and remove the stands from under the TL. Lower the Acura to the ground.

    • 9). Tighten the upper air-conditioning fan assembly bolt with a ratchet and socket. Plug the wires back into the rear of the air-conditioning fan.

      Connect the negative battery cable and tighten it, using a ratchet and socket. Close the TL's hood.
