Because New Mexico’s skiing is not quite as famous as Colorado and Utah, great deals can be found at ski resorts throughout the state. New Mexico’s ski season can be just as long as other Rocky Mountain states' ski areas, running from November to April. Snowfall in the local ski resorts range from between 125 and 250 inches per season. In addition to inexpensive lift tickets and day passes, some resorts offer lodging deals, discounts for military personnel and free skiing for kids and seniors.

    Ski Cloudcroft

    • Billed on their website as the “Southernmost Ski Run in the United States,” this ski area charges just over half of what most of the other ski resorts in New Mexico do for a day pass. Snowboarding is permitted, and there is a rental shop that provides both snowboard and ski gear. Tubing is permitted on weekends only, and the tubing day pass is inexpensive. The Silver Spoon Ski School operates on site and provides ski and snowboard lessons. This ski area has two lifts, eight major runs and numerous smaller runs.

According to the Ski New Mexico website, visitors who drive 100 miles or more can sleep and ride for free, and active members of the military also ski free. In addition to these offers, many other deals are available during the ski season. The Sipapu website is updated frequently during the ski season with their offers. The resort features four lifts and 41 different trails, and the season generally runs from November to April.

    Sandia Peak Ski Area

    • Sandia Peak sells lift tickets that are less expensive than most other resorts in New Mexico. The area has nearly 30 named trails and three major lifts in addition to the aerial tramway, which the ski area bills as the world’s longest. The High Finance Restaurant is at the top of the tramway at just over 10,000 feet, and tickets to the tramway can be purchased separately from lift tickets. The ski area also has a newly opened terrain park for snowboarders. Rentals and lessons are available for skiing and snowboarding.
