How to Build a Volume Pedal From a Hammond Pedal

    • 1). Plug in the soldering iron and allow it to warm up. Position all the electrical components on the PCB so that they correlate with the positions according to the schematic diagram. The components that you will need will be the two op-amps, resistors and the potentiometer. You will also need to attach the battery terminal where indicated on the schematic.

    • 2). Using the soldering iron, apply solder to any places on the PCB it is required. Use the solder to fix the op-amps and the battery terminal on to the PCB board. Clean off any excess solder with a dry cloth.

    • 3). Carefully drill a hole in each corner of the PCB board. Next, use the pen to mark points on the plywood and drill four holes. Screw the PCB board to the plywood using the screwdriver.

    • 4). Measure the PCB board and its wooden base. Use the ruler and pen to mark out the area you need to cut on the aluminum sheet. Cut the aluminum sheet to size with the metal cutters. Bend the sides of the aluminum into a rectangle. This will be the shielding for the PCB board to prevent noise interference when the pedal is being used.

    • 5). Use a craft knife to cut the self adhesive foam padding so that it fits into the aluminum rectangle. This will add extra shielding and prevent the circuit board from making contact with the aluminum. Fix the shield over the PCB board. Secure in place by drilling two holes in the aluminum and into the plywood surround of the PCB board. Screw into place with the screwdriver.

    • 6). Use the soldering iron to attach the final piece of wiring on the PCB board to the Hammond pedal's pot. Use the schematic diagram as reference point for the soldering.

    • 7). Drill two more holes into either side of the plywood surround. Use the ruler and pen to mark out identical holes on the inside of the pedal unit. Drill into the pedal and then screw the plywood onto the pedal. Fit a 9-V battery into the battery terminal. Test the pedal to make sure it works.
