What if you fall in love for someone who is HIV positive? 

Imagine that you meet the most wonderful and perfect guy and he is everything that you ever dreamed of. And he likes you too! You realise you are truly in love with him and you aim to start a relationship together. But he tells you he is HIV positive. What should you do?

You probably know the answer already. You both want a relationship but you don’t want to risk contracting HIV and he does not want to risk passing it to you either.

The solution lies in a wrapper inside the goodie box by the bed. 

Unfortunately, there will always be a risk of contracting HIV from your poz partner; but the risk in a 'mixed-status' relationship like yours is no different than having relations with a partner of unknown status. Your safer sex practices should always be on red-alert status, regardless. Make sure you know the basics about HIV. The way to protect yourself in your serodiscordant relationship is no different than the safer sex practices that you should already be using.

Have a serious chat with your love about your anxiety. I'm sure he has the same concerns. It would be a good idea to lay out some sexual ground rules. Slip ups and mishaps, though they make good excuses, are not allowed. You both need to make sure that the romper room doesn't get out of control. Then just be honest with yourself and each other as to whether you will be able to make a few sacrifices for the love you say you have. There is also the possibility of couples counseling to help you both deal with the anxiety of the situation.

You should always let your heart lead because, sadly, the risk of contracting HIV from your partner is no more in a sero relationship than it is playing the field.
