Omeprazole 20mg

• Omeprazole (which sells under the Prilosec brand name) is prescribed in doses of 10mg, 20mg or 40mg. The 20mg form is the usual dosage for this medication. Omeprazole is often prescribed for oral ingestion once per day to combat the unpleasant conditions of heartburn and gastrointestinal reflux disease.
  
  

Dosage

• Take omeprazole exactly as it was dispensed to you. Never alter your dosage. If you forget to take your omeprazole dose, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Never double up on this medication because it may result in an overdose, a potentially fatal condition. Symptoms of overdose include blurry vision, rapid heartbeat, headache, confusion, feeling drowsy, feeling nauseous, vomiting and sweating. Be sure to call the poison control center (800) 222-1222) if you feel you are experiencing an overdose of omeprazole.
  
  

Reactions

• Some reactions of omeprazole are considered mild to moderate and include headache and diarrhea. Talk with your doctor if you have noticed any negative symptoms after taking omeprazole. If the reactions are persistent, your doctor may need to adjust your dose or provide a medication that will treat your side effects.
  
  

Interactions

• Some medical conditions or medications may interact with omeprazole and cause it to become less effective. Inform your doctor about your medical history and drugs you are taking, including any over-the-counter medications. Never take omeprazole if you are using voriconazole unless you obtain permission from your physician. Some medications that may further interact with omeprazole include digoxin, cilostazol, warfarin and diazepam. Do not use omeprazole if you are currently using an HIV protease inhibitor medication.
  
  

Warning

• Omeprazole may cause drowsiness. Until you are able to understand how omeprazole will affect your system, do not operate a motor vehicle or perform complex tasks. Do not use omeprazole if you are pregnant because the effects of how this medication will affect an unborn child is unknown. Do not use omeprazole without your doctor's permission if you are breast feeding.
