How to Edge Ceramic Tiles
- 1). Measure the line that you need to cut on the tile, and lightly mark the line with a pencil. The carpenter's adage to "measure twice, cut once" applies here---take your time to measure properly, and you will save time and materials later.
- 2). Align a heavy straightedge along the line you have measured.
- 3). Score the line with a carbide-tipped pencil, keeping the pencil against the straightedge for alignment. You may have to score the line a few times: make sure that the carbide pencil has penetrated the glazed surface of the tile.
- 4). Press down on the straightedge with one hand, and use your other hand to gently pry upward on the tile with a pair of tile nippers.
- 5). Create a smooth edge on your tile with a rubbing stone. Hold the tile in one hand, and rub both sides of the cut edge with a rubbing stone until the edge is smooth and even.
