All those years ago, when Dr.
Atkins proposed a low carb diet menu for weight loss, he was shunned and laughed at.
Scientists and researchers at that time refused to believe that the carbohydrates that we so love gorging on can be bad for our health -- worse, in fact, than fats.
But newer studies are proving that Dr.
Atkins was right all along.
Fats are not as bad for us as carbs are.
The Latest Research Findings A recent study saw researches observe four groups of volunteers, the first group was given a cornflake-milk mixture for breakfast , the second, a sugar mixture, the next bran flakes and the last group was given just water.
The last group, as you may have already guessed was the control group.
These groups were subjected to what is known as "brachial reactive testing".
This particular test allows researchers to observe the way the arteries function.
The results were quite surprising, to say the least.
As was expected, before the patients ate, all their arteries functioned normally and similarly.
After eating, all groups, except group number four showed reduced arterial function capability.
But, huge peaks, which signify arterial stress were observed in the first two groups which were given a very high glycemic-index breakfast.
What Exactly Happens Technically, the researchers report that after a person consumes a particular food with a high glycemic-index, the endothelial walls of their arteries stop functioning properly.
This does not last for too long, but regular consumption of foods rich in carbohydrates can make this a very serious health issue.
So one can conclude that a low carb diet menu is not only good for weight loss but is essential for general well-being! So if you're still under the old misconception that having a nice plate of pasta is going to help you stay fit, as long as you avoid oily food, then think again, my friend.
We know that fats are very, very harmful for us, but we do not consider the fact that we do not consume anywhere near as much as carbohydrates.
So if you want to stay healthy and keep in shape, then it is important to stick to a low carb diet menu.
