4 Criteria to Choose the Best Website Designers

12
Choosing the right web design company to create or recreate your website is one of the most important steps to having a successful website.  Most visitors spend 10 seconds or less on a website before deciding to look around a little more or leave your site and click to another one.  That means that your website has less than 10 seconds to make a good impression on your site visitors and convince them to stay.

When you have a website you want it to not only look great but be easy for your customers to find and easy for them to use so they will return time and again.  The web designers you choose will play a big role in making this happen.

Here are 4 criteria to consider when selecting the best website designers for your project:

Experience & Reputation

The best website designers have years of experience invested in the industry. When looking for the right designer find out what the background of the designers are?  What is their educational background and what qualifications do they have?  If you will have a team of people in a firm working on your site understanding the qualifications of each team member is important.  You want the people working on your site to have a college degree in the area of specialization.

Find out how long the company has been in business and search the internet to check for the reputation of the company.  Also verify if the company is in good standing with the Better Business Bureau.

Wide range of portfolio and services

Look at websites already designed by the company.  The quantity and quality of the sites will be a good indicator of what you can expect of them.  Their portfolio will show you what types of designs they create and what their development capabilities are.  Be sure to look at each of the sites in the portfolio and do a little research to measure the success of the business online and how strong their web presence is in the search engines.  How successful is each website?  What is the purpose of each website?  How many visitors does each site get?  What is the conversion rate?

As you look through the portfolio of sites pay attention to the format and structure of the sites, are they all the same or similar or is there great variety?  If they look the same or similar they might be created from a template and not custom designed.  If you're paying for custom design then that's what you should get, not a cheap template.

Also notice if the designer caters to one specific industry or if there is variety.  A company who works with a wide range of industries will potentially serve you the best because they will have more to offer.

Working Procedures

A systematic working environment with very structured steps and procedures is a prerequisite for the creation of a good website.  Part of the working procedures is how they will respond to your questions, concerns and suggestions.  Will you communicate with them through email, chatting online, on the phone, or in person?  Will they offer live customer support during business hours?  Do they have a help line for non-business hours?

Another procedure that you want to watch for is a formal contract.  The agreement should clarify all copyright infringements as well as procedures for ending the contract.

Cost Effectiveness

You want to get a good value for your money.  You don't want to pay an arm and a leg for your website so you need to find a company that will be able to fit your budget.  That being said be aware that sometimes you get what you pay for.  Realize that companies who offer a predetermined package price for a website will not effectively create the successful website and internet presence that you want for your company.

Before selecting the best website designers you need to determine how much you are willing to budget for your website.  If you can't afford all the features you hope to have on your website then settle for something smaller with fewer features from a good designer, not a cheaper website designer.
