How to Remove the Cutting Blade on a 4.5 HP Murray Lawnmower
- 1). Start the engine and allow the Murray walk-behind lawn mower to run until it is completely out of gasoline. Put on protective gloves. Grasp the spark plug wire. Pull the wire straight back until the connector separates from the spark plug.
- 2). Raise the side of the lawn mower that has the spark plug and muffler. Block the cutting blade with a piece of wood to prevent it from turning.
- 3). Put the 9/16” socket onto the ratchet handle. Shift the selector on the ratchet handle to turn counter clockwise. Fit the socket over the cutting blade retaining bolt.
- 4). Turn the bolt counter clockwise until it is free of the drive shaft. Remove the cutting blade retaining bolt, the Belleville washer and the cutting blade from the drive shaft.
- 5). Inspect the cutting blade for cracks, wear or damage. Determine whether the blade needs to be sharpened or replaced.
