Visit Unique Jain Temple in Chennai
In southern India, the Chennai's Jain Temple is the first one that was built for the Jain community. The real name of this temple is Sri Gujarathi Swetamber Jain Mandir. In this temple the presiding deity is called Lord Parshwanatha, who is also 23rd Teerthankar in the Jain sect.
There are 3 gopurams with 5 doors. All these doors have been carved with marble as per the architecture principal used in famous Dilwara temples. For the construction of the complete temple, only marbles have been used. In order to construct this temple all the workers and technicians were brought from Rajasthan.
All the idols placed in this temple are made of Quartz, which has been chosen from Karnataka's Chellur mines. Stones are slightly green in color and are the highlight of this temple. As per the Jain scriptures, this color is considered to be the true color of God. Many Jain Acharyas come from Gujarathi shwetambar Mandir of Northern India by walking all the way and stay in this temple for 'Chatur Masa'. People who visit Chennai must not miss this temple.
