Thoughts on the True Purpose of a Funeral Eulogy
I have been to a funeral where the participants were in a bittersweet celebration of the life of the recently deceased.
Everyone could have their chance up in front with their funeral eulogy.
People shared their thoughts, snippets of experiences, stories, and even poetry and song.
The deceased was an artist, a very sensitive soul.
She had touched the lives of countless people with her thoughtful gestures.
Everyone had something personal to share about what the departed had done for them and how she touched their lives.
She had even significantly touched the lives of people she didn't really know through her work as a writer.
That night and every night until the burial was a touching tribute.
Although most people were already crying most of the time, it was still an uplifting event in a way.
We all realized how special that person was.
Her life as seen through the eulogies was an example of how life should be lived.
Without everyone's funeral eulogy, this realization could not have been possible.
It was then I knew the true purpose of a funeral eulogy.
That it was not merely ceremony and empty words.
Not merely grand gesture of farewell.
That it could be something more than that.
That it could be the last favor you will be doing for the deceased.
By doing something as simple as expressing yourself, and sharing yourself to others, you will be easing the pain of loss of her friends and loved ones with your words.
