How to Find Out Who Your Legislator Is
- 1). Go to the website VoteSmart.org, a non-partisan, non-profit research organization that provides a database of information on politicians and candidates for public office.
- 2). Enter your five-digit zip code in the box under the "Find Your Representatives" heading, and click "Go."
- 3). Click on the "Current Officials" link, which will take you directly to that section on the page.
- 4). Navigate to the office in which you are interested. Choose from the categories of "Congressional" (United States House and Senate members), "Gubernatorial" (state governor and lieutenant governor), "State Legislative" (state House and Senate members) and "Statewide" (all other public officeholders in the state government). Go to the bottom of the page to the "Current Candidates" section to see who is currently campaigning for an office.
- 5). Click on the officeholder's name to see a list of information on the politician, such as voting records, issue positions, campaign finances and contact information.
