Write Passnote Style Articles in As Little As 30 Minutes

8
How To Create A Passnotes-Style Article You have probably seen the "Passnotes" format of narrow-column articles in, well, practically every newspaper now, but I think they originated in The Guardian in the UK.
The format is, they have a topic, then there are a number of pertinent questions about that topic, followed by a reply.
The idea is you have encapsulated the core of the subject in a very short article.
The author gets to look very knowledgeable and erudite.
The way to write them is simplicity itself, and you can write several before breakfast.
This is how.
Start With Your Topic Yes, start with a topic, and make it specific.
Pick one you have at least some experience of (the more the better), and aim it at a specific target market, as this helps hugely.
Let's say you picked "Purchasing A Ski Property In France" or "What To Look For When Buying Jamon Iberico" or "The White Wines of Rueda".
You now brainstorm everything, yes everything you know about this topic, without thinking, typing like a dervish.
You can start with headings as placeholders, if that makes it easier.
eg
  • Deciding What Type of Property You Want
  • Purpose of The Property
  • Narrowing Down The Locations
  • New Build or Renovation Project?
  • Getting A French Mortgage
  • Dealing With The Notaire
  • French Tax Issues
  • What is Leaseback & Why Should I Want It?
  • etc
Writing The Content Now quickly write a short paragraph on each of the headings.
Sub-divide them if necessary, especially if you have more than one paragraph.
Read it all through, and add extra paragraphs as needed.
The golden rule is one thought/issue per paragraph.
Then write a short question above each paragraph that would seem to be a question to your answer, and embolden the question.
Finishing It Off Reorder the paragraphs in a sensible order.
Now send it to your editor.
Or publish it to your blog.
Viola! As they say in orchestras.
You are now an expert, people love you, Brad Pitt wants you to have his babies etc.
You could keep this style of writing going for years...
