Grape growing is often regarded by many as a strenuous task that needs utmost attention.
That is why it is no more a question why there are only a few who dares to try this process.
While there are plenty of good guides teaching us about this subject, growing grapes at home is still viewed by most folks with a lot of uncertainty.
From serious care, choosing the right location, preparing support for the vines to preparing the place correctly, everything must be followed closely for success.
The best location for the vines is where there is ample sunlight.
However, if it happens that there is no feasible place where sunlight is abundant, simply guide the vines to creep into a sunny area.
As you know, vines seek good sunlight naturally, but they need to be guided in order for them to go where they must be.
When it comes to eyeing the best location for the vines, you must not forget to consider either rocky land or a sloping one.
Imagine, if your grapes are planted in a place where water does not soak into the soil, your plants will likely get diseases and worse, may die after some time.
Remember that a location with good drainage has a lot to do with the success of grape growing.
However, you should not forget that your grapes, especially those that are newly planted need a soil that drains well, but it doesn't mean that they don't need to get the necessary water at the same time.
Your baby grape plants need enough water to settle their roots well as they grow.
Aside from these, when growing grapes at home, you will need a stable structure for support especially once they mature.
Often, arbors are used, but as far as stability is concerned, fence and trellis are preferred most.
However, there is still no general rule in terms of which support to use for any type.
From PVC pipe, wood, and iron support, they will all do the job.
What is important is to place the support as early as you plant the vine.
To know whether your vines are healthy or not, you need to check after some years if their leaves are dark green in color.
If it appears in dark green shade, then you are assured that the vines are getting the required amount of nutrients.
Otherwise, add six inches of compost at the base of the vines.
Doing this will surely help them get the nutrients they missed and most of all, they need.
More so, it is your duty to protect them from fungus, mildew, insects, and birds.
Growing grapes at home is very much attractive for any birds' eye.
So to stop this, protect the fruit from birds by putting a net on top of the vines, but make sure that the nets do not hurt the birds.
No one said that grape growing isn't a complex homework, but there is one thing everyone will agree on and that is the benefits that these fruits can provide in the end.
Grapes can turn into a good salad, wine, or dressing.
Meaning, growing one at home is truly a complete reward for all.
