Video Transcript
Hi, I'm Cristin Frank, founder of Eve of Reduction and author of the do it yourself lifestyle book, Living Simple, Free and Happy. Today, I'm going to show you how to attach a fabric yo-yo to clothing. Fabric yo-yos are as fun as they sound and they're really a cute way to embellish plain clothing or even cover up a stain, a tear, imperfection, so you can salvage an article of clothing. So whatever your reason, you want to secure them on to your clothing. And you can attach them by hand or with a sewing machine. Let me show you how. So likely you want your pieces of fabric to alter in size so you have different sized fabric yo-yos in the end. So for one I used just a CD as a template for cutting my fabric and the other I used a roll of tape. So if you've never made a fabric yo-yo they're really quite simple and you do need to do this part by hand. Flip over your fabric so the print side is down and fold it over like you're going to give it a little hem and really you're just going to like whip stitch this. So big kind of sweeping stitches in to the edges of your yo-yo. And fold it over as you go. It doesn't have to be super precise. So once you've come full circle with stitching around the hem of your yo-yo you're going to want to pinch it and start pulling it tight. Pull your thread until you get it in to that yo-yo shape. But we're not going to finish it off at this point, we're just getting an estimation of the final size. So you're going to just tuck the needle in there for now and we want to get an estimation of the size. So we're going to put down a piece of paper and use a washable marker and just kind of dot around where the template of your yo-yo footprint would go. And now you can cut that circle out. OK this is going to go inside your yo-yo. So pull your needle out and start to open your yo-yo back up. And this is where either you're going to hand sew or use your machine. You're going to put your template inside there now that's your inside. And again use your washable marker to just dot around so you know where to sew with your sewing machine. So now I have sewn inside my fabric yo-yo along the marker dots that I made earlier. And to finish up, we're just going to go back and pull the thread to tighten the yo-yo and cinch the fabric together. And you'll see you have the threads from where you started and just make a nice knot. And there you can see I've done two different sized yo-yos on my T-shirt. I'm Cristin Frank from Eve of Reduction and I encourage you to get clever and creative with your clothing.
